About

Welcome to Life Beyond Bariatric! I’m a printer by day and a gamer by night, I have been writing on and off for the last 20 years. My wife and I have both gone through the gastric sleeve surgery and we are working together with some of our close friends to help others who are on the same journey. This site was created to help fill a void in the bariatric weight loss support community, to create a place where we can share insights and experiences with people who are just like us. When I started my journey I was frustrated with the lack of current information available online, much of it was old info and on inactive forums. With all the advances in the field posts, statistics, and information on procedures from five to ten years ago were doing little to answer my questions.

Although I trusted my doctors and nutritionist I wanted to hear from people like me who had the surgery. How is eating afterwards? Will I throw up? What foods can you not eat anymore? How do you deal with the cravings? What do you eat when you’re on the go? I had heard horror stories of bypass and lap band gone wrong, I admit I was scared, I didn’t want to go through that for the rest of my life. Luckily I had a great support group of friends who had the sleeve and were ecstatic about the results. People I could trust, who I could ask the ridiculous or stupid questions, and who would give me a non-rehearsed non-clinical answer.

I hope to provide that sense of community for other people who may not be so fortunate, who want to do something about their health but maybe need to hear it from someone just like them.  Tremendous thanks goes to my wife who, as a chef, has personally tailored and tested every recipe we post on the site.  Please check out the articles, the blog posts, the recipes and engage in the comments. I would love to hear your story and hope you enjoy mine.
